TRANSRECTAL ULTRASOUND OF THE PROSTATE
Description:
Ultrasound uses harmless sound waves to give us pictures of the prostate. Indications include suspicion of cancer either by suspicious finger exam of the prostate or by elevation of a prostate screening blood test (PSA). It is also used to measure the size of the prostate. The procedure is done in our office, and does not allways require the need for anesthesia. Initially, a probe is placed in the rectum. With slight movement of the probe, many different views are obtained.
