OFFICE PROCEDURE UNDER IV SEDATION
We have arranged for you to undergo the following procedure in our office under I.V. Sedation:

DO NOT EAT OR DRINK ANYTHING 6 HOURS BEFORE THE PROCEDURE TIME. IF YOUR PROCEDURE IS SCHEDULED IN THE MORNING PLEASE DO NOT EAT OR DRINK ANYTHING AFTER MIDNIGHT THE NIGHT BEFORE.
Please take a shower on the day of your procedure.
Please bring 1 depend pad with you as you may need it after the procedure.
YOU NEED TO BRING A FAMILY MEMBER WITH YOU TO DRIVE YOU HOME. You will not be allowed to drive the day of your procedure. Your driver must remain in the office with you the entire time.
You will be in our office for at least 2 to 3 hours, so please plan accordingly. Please remember that the other patients who are being seen for regular office visits may be seen before you. SINCE YOU ARE HAVING THE PROCEDURE, THERE MAY BE A LONG WAIT TIME BEFORE THE PROCEDURE DUE TO ROOM AVAILABILITY.
Some procedures have special instructions regarding medications and preparation. Please read all paperwork given to you regarding your procedure.
It is important that when you go home you need to rest, drink PLENTY of fluids, and take all medications as instructed.
When you arrive for your procedure:
- We will explain the procedure to you and offer you the opportunity to ask any questions that you might have regarding the procedure.
- You will be asked to sign a consent form that gives your permission to do the test. Read the form carefully and ask any questions if something is not clear.
- You may be asked to remove some clothing and you will be given a gown to wear.
- You will be positioned on the examination table.
- You will be seen and evaluated by our anesthesia staff.
- An Intravenous (IV) line will be inserted in your arm or hand.
- You will receive and IV sedative or anesthetic, depending upon your specific situation. Your heart rate, blood pressure, breathing and blood oxygen level will be continuously monitored during the procedure.
- After the procedure, once your blood pressure, pulse, breathing and oxygen saturation are stable and you are alert, IV line will be removed and you will be sent home in custody of your family members or friends.
