Why is this drug prescribed?

Cialis is used for treatment of impotence. Erections are created by trapping blood under pressure within the chambers of the penis. Cialis has been shown to affect a normally occurring chemical in the penis (nitric oxide) that allows the penis to trap blood within its chambers more efficiently.

 

When should it be used?

Cialis can be used in any man with impotence.

 

How should it be used?

Cialis comes in 10 & 20 mg tablets. One tablet is taken 30 to 60 minutes before sexual intercourse. The erection will usually last 30 to 45 minutes. The usual starting dose is 10 mg with a 20 mg maximum.

 

What special instructions should I follow while using this drug?

There are no special instructions. Cialis may be taken with or without food.    

 

What side effects can this drug cause?

Headache, flushing, indigestion, nasal congestion. Rarely, transient visual disturbances (a blue-green haze) will may occur.

 

Are there any contraindications to using Cialis?

Yes, men who take or need nitroglycerin or nitrates, in any form (pill, under the tongue, paste, injection, or amyl nitrate ampules), should not use this treatment for impotence.

 

How often can I use Cialis?

The recommended use is no more than once a day, or once in a 24-hour period.
