What Cardura does

Cardura is used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). It is also used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). It relaxes the tightness of a certain type of muscle in the prostate and at the opening of the bladder. This may increase the rate of urine flow and/or decrease the symptoms you are having. Cardura helps relieve the symptoms of BPH. It does NOT change the size of the prostate, which may continue to grow, but a larger prostate does not necessarily cause more or worse symptoms.

What you should know while taking Cardura for BPH

Cardura can cause a sudden drop in blood pressure. You may feel dizzy, faint, or "light-headed," particularly after you get up suddenly from bed or from a chair. We recommend that you take Cardura at bedtime. You will start with a 1 mg dose of Cardura. The dose will be increased as your body becomes accustomed to the effect of the medication. Usually, the dose is increased to 2 mg by the third week, and if needed, to 4 mg by the fifth week. Do not take higher doses without our permission. Doses higher than 4 mg increase the likelihood of dizziness and fainting.

Other side effects you might have while taking Cardura include drowsiness, blurred or hazy vision, nausea, and "puffiness" of the feet or hands. Discuss any unexpected effects you notice with us, or call if you have questions.
